Just two weeks after his high school graduation from Monsignor Edward Pace High School, ace pitcher Christopher Rodriguez was drafted in the fourth round (126th overall) of the MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Angels. The following day, Alex Mateo, a Pace alum from the Class of 2012, was drafted in the 22nd round by the Miami Marlins. Rodriguez, a right-hander, helped lead the Pace Spartans baseball team to the 2016 FHSAA Class 5A State Finals. He finished his high school career by pitching a 1-0, two-hit shutout against Orlando Bishop Moore in the Class 5A state semifinal.
